Partners in Education. Shared Responsibility. Pace Setters for the Greater Good.

St. Edwards Secondary School values the relationships we share with our surrounding community.

Situated in the heart of Freetown, St. Edwards is part of a close-knit educational landscape. Within less than six hundred meters of our campus stands Sierra Leone’s first government secondary school, and similar proximity exists among many schools across the city. Freetown is small, interconnected, and vibrant. In this city,
everyone is our neighbor.

A City-Connected School

Our students come from all parts of Freetown. There are no school buses. Each day, Edwardians walk to school or use available public transportation, interacting with the city’s residents as part of everyday life.

Students proudly wear their school uniform; navy blue short or long trousers for upper classmen, immaculate white shirts, and the distinct St. Edwards school crest. This visibility makes our students easily identifiable and places upon them a responsibility to represent their school with dignity, discipline, and respect at all times.

Pace Setters for the Greater Good

It is clearly said, widely believed, and proudly upheld by Edwardians that St. Edwards students and alumni are pace setters for the greater good.

This belief extends beyond academics and athletics. It shapes how Edwardians lead, serve, and take responsibility for their institutions and communities. The Edwardian Endowment and the ongoing school rehabilitation movement are direct expressions of this long-held tradition of leadership and stewardship.

Edwardians do not wait for change. We lead it.

Shared Responsibility

Because our students live and move throughout the city daily, the citizens of Freetown are active participants in the Edwardian experience.

We encourage neighbors, community members, and fellow institutions to see themselves as partners in shaping the character of our students. Positive reinforcement, guidance, and accountability from the broader community help reinforce the values taught within our school walls.

Our Commitment to the Community

St. Edwards Secondary School is committed to being a responsible and respectful presence in Freetown. We strive to:

•    Maintain a safe, orderly, and well-managed campus
•    Promote student conduct that reflects discipline, respect, and integrity
•    Communicate openly about school activities and major events
•    Encourage students to uphold Edwardian values on and off campus
•    Strengthen trust and cooperation with surrounding institutions and residents

Our students are taught that they represent not only themselves, but their school and the proud legacy of Edwardians who came before them.

Community Engagement & Communication

Information about school activities, events, and initiatives will be shared through official school communication channels, including this website.

We welcome feedback from neighbors and invite community members to contact the school if they observe students demonstrating exemplary character—or if concerns arise during school hours. This open dialogue strengthens accountability and mutual respect.

Campus Improvement & Community Benefit

Through the Strategic Plan, Campus Master Plan, and Edwardian Endowment, St. Edwards is investing in campus upgrades that benefit both students and the surrounding community, including:

•    Improved campus security and access
•    Organized traffic and parking flow
•    Restored green spaces and athletic fields
•    Upgraded facilities and infrastructure

These efforts reflect Edwardian leadership in action in setting the pace for sustainable school development in Sierra Leone.

Closing Statement

At St. Edwards Secondary School, education is a shared responsibility and leadership is a shared expectation.

By working together, students, families, alumni, neighbors, and the wider Freetown community we continue to shape young men who live with integrity, respect others, and lead with purpose.

Together, we are neighbors in responsibility and Edwardians in leadership.
