The Edwardian Endowment
Sustainability; Stewardship; Permanence
Introduction
The Edwardian Endowment exists to secure the future of St. Edwards Secondary School.
It is a long-term financial institution designed to provide stability, resilience, and independence for generations of students. Through disciplined investment, responsible governance, and collective stewardship, the Endowment ensures that St. Edward’s can plan boldly, act strategically, and endure permanently.
This is not short-term fundraising; this is institutional preservation.
Purpose of the Endowment
The purpose of the Edwardian Endowment is to:
• Ensure the long-term financial sustainability of St. Edwards Secondary School;
• Support academic excellence, faculty development, and student success;
• Provide stable funding for campus and facility development;
• Reduce reliance on unpredictable or short-term funding sources;
• Enable thoughtful planning aligned with the School’s Strategic Plan and Campus Master Plan.
An endowment is not spent; it is protected, grown, and responsibly deployed.
A Stand-Alone Institution; A Unified Effort
The Edwardian Endowment is a stand-alone financial institution; it operates independently with its own governance, policies, and fiduciary responsibility.
Its success, however, depends on coordinated leadership and shared responsibility. Alumni chapters, the Alumni Board, school leadership, and partners work collectively to foster and execute the School’s Strategic Plan and Campus Master Plan.
Independence provides protection; unity ensures impact.
Governance & Stewardship
The Endowment is governed by clear policies, ethical standards, and disciplined oversight.
• Funds are managed with long-term preservation as the priority;
• Investment decisions emphasize prudence, diversification, and sustainability;
• Spending is guided by approved policies and institutional priorities;
• Transparency and accountability are foundational principles.
Stewardship is not optional; it is a moral obligation to donors, students, and future generations.
The Endowment & the Master Plans
The Edwardian Endowment directly supports the execution of the School’s Strategic Plan and Campus Master Plan.
Through responsible growth and controlled distributions, the Endowment helps fund:
• Faculty recruitment, development, and retention;
• Academic and co-curricular excellence;
• Campus rehabilitation and modernization;
• Student wellness, leadership, and character development;
• Long-term institutional resilience.
The Endowment does not replace planning; it empowers it.
Built by Edwardians; Sustained for Generations
The Edwardian Endowment is being built through the leadership, generosity, and discipline of alumni and friends of St. Edward’s Secondary School.
Contributions are acts of trust; stewardship is our response. Together, Edwardians are creating a permanent financial foundation that strengthens our Alma Mater and helps lead educational progress across Sierra Leone.
One family; one purpose; one enduring legacy.
