Victory Marks Important Milestone for Our Youths

Innovation and Technological Development
Students of St. Edward’s Secondary School have earned the opportunity to represent Sierra Leone on the global stage, advancing to the Global AI Robotics Championships in Switzerland following a first-place finish in the national Robotics for Good Youth Challenge on March 28, 2026.
The May Park team secured victory after defeating Bo School in the national finals, also earning the top prize of NLe40,000 in recognition of their outstanding performance.
The competition was attended by senior national leadership, including the Honorable David Moinina Sengeh, Chief Minister of Sierra Leone, whose presence underscored the national importance of youth innovation, science, and technology development.
The Robotics for Good Youth Challenge is a leading United Nations–aligned global competition that invites students aged 10 to 18 to design, build, and program robotics and artificial intelligence solutions addressing real-world challenges. The Sierra Leone National Qualifier is organized by the Kamara Yokie Innovation Center in partnership with the Ministry of Communication, Technology and Innovation, under the global AI for Good initiative supported by the International Telecommunication Union.
Evidence of Investment in Action
This achievement reflects the direct impact of recent investments in structured STEM education at St. Edward’s Secondary School. Within the past year, Edwardian-led support financed and established a modest STEM laboratory at the school—at a time when, only two to three years earlier, the institution faced basic infrastructure challenges, including limited access to desks and chairs.
In less than six months, that investment has already yielded measurable outcomes at both the national and international level.
A Signal of What Is Possible
The advancement of St. Edward’s students to global competition is not an isolated success; it is a clear indication of what becomes possible when education is supported with discipline, structure, and purpose.
As the May Park Boys prepare to represent Sierra Leone internationally, their achievement stands as a powerful reflection of student potential—and a reminder that sustained investment in education produces results that extend far beyond the classroom.
